It’s the weekend! And, although “April showers” did not really happen due to low rainfall amounts, “May flowers” are still on their way! Go visit a botanical garden, a local nursery or just have a picnic. But, if you do nothing else this weekend, make sure to think of your Mom. Without her, you wouldn’t be reading this. Charlotte’s Weekend Events
May 7: Turtle Rescuer at Sea Life Charlotte – Concord Aquarium, 11 am – 5 pm. “It’s your time to be a hero! Learn how to save the day for a sea turtle from May 1st through June 20th at SEA LIFE! The stimulated experience will bring guests of all ages through an activity trail where they can weigh a sea turtle, feed them and guide them back to the ocean.”
May 7: Friday’s at Camp North End, 5 pm – 9 pm. “Get ready for live music, good food, new public art, and plenty of small businesses for you to support (make sure to mask up).”
May 7-9 (and beyond): The Magic Tree House Space Mission: Planetarium Program, The Shiele Museum. “Travel with Jack and Annie, stars of the Magic Tree House® best-selling children’s book series, as they search for answers to a mysterious riddle they discover in a written note signed “–M.” Visit an observatory, talk to an astronaut, and then fly off to the deepest corners of the universe on a mission to discover the secrets of our Sun, Moon, planets, space travel, and more.”
May 7-9 (and beyond): Guided Nature Walk at Discovery Place Nature, 2 pm daily. “Discover the beauty and natural diversity of our local forest habitat as we stroll around Discovery Place Nature’s Paw Paw Nature Trail.”

May 8-9: Mother’s Day Celebration, Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, preregister. “Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will pay tribute to moms throughout the region by offering free admission all weekend May 8 and 9. We ask that all guests who wish to visit that weekend, including mothers and garden members, reserve or purchase a timed ticket. Moms and their families are invited to stroll the Gardens, listen to live music, shop The Garden Store, dine at food trucks and sip on a cool beverage.”
May 8 : Live Music: River Jam: Gaslight Street, US Whitewater Center, 7 pm-10 pm.
May 8: Carolina Clay Matters Spring Pottery Festival. “We are live with Covid safety provisions in place. Come Join us to shop from our more than forty five potters all in one place. Your longtime favorites and newly joined emerging artists. 10am to 4pm. Free Admission/Free Parking.”
May 9: Mother’s Day. Whether mom is local or far away, take a moment and reflect on her awesomeness. If you have the opportunity, give her a call or send her a text. If space or distance do not allow, just think about her…she will feel your love.
